HomePostsVirtual RetreatRetreat week 3 – Meeting God with uncertainty (available 3 May)

Apr 30 Posted by Rebecca Young. Under Virtual Retreat,

Eddie Howells will be leading the retreat this week.  Eddie will be reflecting on the kind of uncertainty that lockdown brings and how it affects our spiritual lives, John of the Cross knew what it was like to live in a time of restriction and uncertainty that is imposed rather than chosen. He called it the ‘dark night’. Though we may not consider our own experience of lockdown as a ‘dark night of the soul’ John has some suggestions about how to find God’s presence whenever we’re not in control of our circumstances of what happens next.  Eddie will be sharing some parts of his work that can be particularly valuable in these circumstances.

Eddie is a university lecturer in Christian Spirituality. He has taught at Heythrop College and at the University of Roehampton and has written on spirituality and mystical theology, most recently as editor of the Oxford Handbook of Mystical Theology. Eddie is an Anglican lay person.  Register/login here.
