Alan Gregory

Alan joined St Augustine’s as Principal in 2014. He teaches church history, historical theology and spirituality.
Alan was a Lecturer at Salisbury and Wells Theological College in the 1980s before moving to the USA, taking up a research fellowship at Emory University, and serving in parishes in Atlanta and Athens, Georgia. Subsequently he was Professor of Church History and Historical Theology at the Seminary of the Southwest, in Austin, Texas. In 2004, he was appointed Academic Dean.
His academic interests include eighteenth and nineteenth century theology and the theological study of literature, popular culture, and technology.
In his spare time, Alan reads theology and literature, watches movies, listens to jazz and the most excellent Captain Beefheart, and walks his Great Dane, Cara.

Alan is also a contributor to the Oxford Guide to Romanticism; to Coleridge’s Assertion of Religion; and to An Introduction to Jacob Boehme: Four Centuries of Thought and Reception.
Alan’s latest book, Science Fiction Theology: Beauty and the Transformation of the Sublime won the 2016 Christianity Today Book of the Year Award in the category of Culture and the Arts.
