Alan Gregory, Principal

Alan Gregory

Principal

“I’ve worked in theological education for an almost embarrassing tally of years but I have never found a community of formation more vibrant or more apt for our moment in the Church’s mission.”

Alan joined St Augustine’s as Principal in 2014. He teaches church history, historical theology and spirituality.

Alan was a Lecturer at Salisbury and Wells Theological College in the 1980s before moving to the USA, taking up a research fellowship at Emory University, and serving in parishes in Atlanta and Athens, Georgia. Subsequently he was Professor of Church History and Historical Theology at the Seminary of the Southwest, in Austin, Texas. In 2004, he was appointed Academic Dean.

His academic interests include eighteenth and nineteenth century theology and the theological study of literature, popular culture, and technology.

In his spare time, Alan reads theology and literature, watches movies, listens to jazz and the most excellent Captain Beefheart, and walks his Great Dane, Cara.
