Intelligences: Human, Artificial, Planetary – and perhaps Divine
As investment in AI soars, promises of a transformed future are everywhere. But what do we mean by intelligence, and how well do we understand its many forms?
Join us for an exciting interdisciplinary conference exploring different ways of understanding intelligence, from the human and artificial to the planetary, and perhaps even the divine.
You’ll hear from leading voices in fields including psychology, cognitive science, anthropology, theology, philosophy and the history of science, who will challenge familiar assumptions and open up fresh perspectives on what intelligence means.
With an inspiring speaker lineup to be announced soon, this free event will bring together ideas and open new ways of thinking.
A conference about rethinking intelligence
Much public discussion of AI relies on narrow ideas of intelligence, often shaped by measurement and computation. Yet intelligence is far more complex. It involves how we make sense of context, how our actions shape our understanding, and how our bodies and environments influence the way we think.
The conference will explore alternative understandings of intelligence, drawing on disciplines including psychology, cognitive science, anthropology, theology, philosophy, history of science, Science and Technology Studies (STS) and semiotics.
These perspectives invite us to question our assumptions and consider what a richer understanding of intelligence might mean, particularly in the face of the environmental crisis.
