Sam Hole

Tutor in Doctrine

Sam began working life as a History teacher, and came to the study of theology through a certificate at Heythrop College followed by a Masters in Theology at King’s College London. He trained for ordained ministry at Westcott House in Cambridge, with the main academic element of his formation being a PhD on John of the Cross, supervised by Sarah Coakley. The resulting book, John of the Cross: Desire, Transformation and Selfhood, is published by Oxford University Press.

After a curacy in Borough, in Southwark Diocese, Sam moved north of the river and is now Associate Vicar of St Luke’s and Christ Church, Chelsea. He enjoys continued involvement with the world of education – as Chair of Governors at a local secondary school in his previous parish, and now as a governor at Chelsea Academy. He is an Assistant Director of Ordinands for Kensington Area.
