Are you thinking about studying theology but nervous about signing up for a full course leading to a qualification?

At St Augustine’s, we believe theological study truly is for everyone, so we want to make it as accessible as possible.

Studying theology gets under our skin. By delving into the sources and expressions of our Christian faith, we gain renewed energy and understanding. Theological study leads us to a greater connection with God, deepens prayer life, and illuminates why we believe what we do. With greater knowledge and reflection on theological ideas we find new ways of integrating our faith into daily life.

Try a taster module in theology

If you like the sound of that, but are unsure whether joining a full programme is right for you, why not join us for our ‘taster module’, for just £150.00 for a full term’s study?

Studying for one term, with the support of a tutor dedicated to helping you take your first steps in theological learning, gives you an opportunity to explore your appetite and aptitude for undergraduate study.

“I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed my first term at St Augustine’s. I feel like a sponge that has been put in a bath of water and allowed to soak up the riches of knowledge! I have learnt a huge amount in my Introduction to Biblical Studies module, and this learning has helped to shape my church life and spiritual life in much more depth. I can now speak with some knowledge about scripture, whereas before I embarked on this course, I floundered for answers and reason!” Vicky, Taster Student

Most taster students take the module An Introduction to Biblical Studies, led by the Revd Dr Simon Stocks, and you can find out more about it here:

Progress towards a certificate, diploma or degree

If, like many of our taster students, you decided go on to study for a Certificate in Higher Education, (a one year full-time or two year part-time programme), or further, to earn a diploma or degree, your taster module will count towards it.

The taster module option is also often used by people who are considering ordained or licenced ministry, or who are going through the discernment process but who are not yet on a church-sponsored ministerial programme and are keen to familiarise themselves with theological study at undergraduate level.
