Running to raise money for children’s education in Zimbabwe

People have already started donating to Bishop Martin’s epic running challenge in advance of his journey, which begins on 1 August, and he’s been deeply moved by the generosity shown so far. On average, supporters are giving £48.

To reach the halfway fundraising target by the end of July, Bishop Martin says: “If people donated £20 each day, or just 10 people gave £40 a day, we’d be well on the way to meeting our halfway target.”

Bishop Martin, St Augustine’s Chair of Trustees, is running the entire 267-mile Pennine Way, the UK’s most challenging national trail, in just 10 days, raising £30,000 to support children’s education in Zimbabwe.

A marathon every day

Carrying all his own kit and running completely unsupported, he’ll cover a marathon each day, accompanied by his Border Collie, Jem, from Edale in Derbyshire to Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders.

This ambitious challenge is in aid of children’s education in Zimbabwe, supporting the long-standing link between the Kingston Episcopal Area and the Diocese of Matabeleland. Funds raised will be used to further develop the Kingston-Matabeleland Link, especially the new St Cecilia’s School in Lupane.

Can you give a gift to support Bishop Martin?

Every donation, big or small, will help bring education to children who walk miles each day just to reach school.
