An exciting appointment to lead postgraduate theology study
After a rigorous application and interview process, we’re delighted to announce that Monica Jones has been appointed to start full-time at St Augustine’s College of Theology in January 2027.
Monica will serve as Director of Postgraduate Programmes and brings experience and a passion for Practical Theology.
A passion for Practical Theology
Monica has recently worked at the Centre for Autism and Theology at the University of Aberdeen. Her recent work examined the concept and experience of belonging, and she brings a deep focus on, and passion for, the inclusion and acceptance of all individuals within churches.
Her doctoral work bridged the fields of autism theology, ecclesiology, and Christian anthropology, and she frequently draws on sociological and psychological theory in her theological work, being devoted to identifying theological value in all areas of life.
Exploring the future of theological study
In addition to her personal research, Monica has been involved with the British and Irish Association of Practical Theology for several years, including an ongoing project on the future of practical theology in Britain and Ireland. This study is deeply important at a time when theological study is becoming less valued in higher education, and she hopes its outcomes will point a way forward for those working in the field.
Monica grew up in Suffolk, before moving to Cardiff for her undergraduate studies. She completed her MA in Durham before moving to Hampshire to work for the Diocese of Winchester. After completing her doctoral studies in Aberdeen, Monica jokes she has experienced life in all cardinal directions of Great Britain. She’s excited to explore a new part of the country as she relocates from Aberdeen to begin her role at St Augustine’s.
Monica said, “I am eager to begin this role and be part of shaping the future of the college, and subsequently the church. The students I have met are engaged, passionate, and open, and I look forward to getting to know them better.”
