Life at St Augustine’s
As a student at St Augustine’s, you will engage in study that will deepen and stretch your faith, allowing you to attune yourself to God’s challenges.
You will join a supportive community, explore your spiritual growth and learn alongside your fellow students—all in a non-residential setting.
“I explored a couple of colleges and felt that St Augustine’s size enabled more personal interaction between students and staff, which suited me; it felt very warm and welcoming.”

Where and how will you study at St Augustine’s?
When studying theology or training for ordination, learning in a way that works best for you is essential.
Non-residential theological study
St Augustine’s is a non-residential theology college, so you don’t need to live on campus or in traditional student accommodation.
Instead, you can attend classes at our London or Kent campuses or study online.
You can enrol and study with us as long as you live within a reasonable distance of our campuses.
Worshipping together
As part of your student experience and ongoing formation, we invite you to join us in worship and prayer if and when it feels right for you.
Classes often begin or end with prayer, offering a moment to give thanks for the wisdom and insight that draws us closer to God.
If you’re at Malley Abbey, you are welcome also to join the afternoon service after classes.
Attend classes on campus or remotely
St Augustine’s has two campuses in the South East of England. You can decide to attend classes at either campus or online (or, in some cases, both).
- The West Malling campus, where you will attend Friday classes from 10 am to 4 pm in the tranquil and sun-soaked Malling Abbey.
- The Southwark campus, where you will attend convenient evening classes at Trinity House, our modern campus building in the heart of central London.
Many of our courses allow you to learn remotely via online classes. While the majority of courses require an element of in-person learning, some are taught exclusively online. Explore our course page to see which option works best for you.
Finding your formation
Whatever your background, experience or Church tradition, studying theology is a chance to explore personal, intellectual, and spiritual change, known as ‘formation.’
As a student or ordinand, there is no expectation to fit a mold or become a certain ‘type’ of person after formation.
Formation is about discovering who you are. We’re here to support you on that journey through heartfelt, faithful and transformative study.
Developing your spiritual maturity
At St Augustine’s, we’re committed to supporting you on your unique journey towards formation and spiritual maturity.
Through theologically reflective practice, you will gain the tools and wisdom to inspire profound personal change. You will discover unexpected strengths and capacities, learning that grace exceeds dreams.
Your time at St Augustine’s will renew and reaffirm your commitment to lifelong formation.
College Chaplain Rev Harriet Johnson describes the sense of community across the college and the many Church traditions represented at St Augustine’s.
