Thomas Sharp
Tutor in Pastoral Theology & Lay Ministry Lead
“I am immensely excited about teaching and learning with the staff and students. The students I have met were open, excited, and hopeful, and that is very much the sort of church I want to be a part of building for the future.”
Thomas Sharp joined St Augustine’s, bringing a wealth of experience in liturgy, pastoral care, and community engagement.
Thomas’s academic background focused on the pastoral theology of Karl Rahner, particularly exploring themes of aging, illness, and death. Passionate about fostering theological dialogue, he is the founder and project coordinator of the Young Anglican Theology Project, an initiative that connects and inspires young Anglican theologians across the Communion, providing opportunities to share and publish their work.
Originally from Hampshire, Thomas studied Law at university before living in community at Hilfield Friary. He trained for ministry at Cranmer Hall in Durham and served as a non-stipendiary curate at Newcastle Cathedral while completing his PhD. A Third Order Franciscan and an active member of the Society of Catholic Priests, he is committed to promoting an inclusive priestly spirituality within the Church of England.
Beyond his ministry, Thomas is a keen musician and cook and enjoys gardening as much as city life allows. His partner, Evan, is a parish priest in Kensington.
