“To them, the desert is a wilderness no more”
This week, Rev Harriet Johnson guides us on two startling journeys into the wilderness; Elijah from the Book of Kings, and Hagar from the Book of Genesis.
First, we follow Elijah as he fleas into the desert and leaves behind his status, his servants, and even his will to live. There, he encounters God and His mercy – but this is just the start of Elijah’s experience in the wilderness.
We then join Hagar on her journey as she slips into the wilderness to escape familial abuse. Alone, without resources and pregnant, Hagar receives reprieve from God, alongside a life-changing promise of salvation.
But it’s not just a self-enforced exile into the desert that unites these two figures – listen to the episode to discover the full story.
