Stephen Stavrou

Stephen is currently the Vicar of Saint Michael & All Angels, Barnes in the Diocese of Southwark. Having been brought up in London to French and Greek parents, he studied theology at St John’s College, Cambridge. He later returned to Cambridge to prepare for ordination at Westcott House whilst undertaking an MPhil in Church History at Peterhouse, which included a dissertation on iconography and Anglican theology of the image. After serving a curacy in west London, he went on to Southwark Cathedral as Succentor and a Chaplain of King’s College London, before his current role as a parish priest.

 

Stephen’s academic interests include ecumenism, liturgy, art, church history, and the interface between all these areas. Stephen is a member of the Anglican-Oriental Orthodox International Commission, engaging in theological dialogue on behalf of the Anglican Communion. Until recently, he edited Koinonia, the journal of the Anglican Eastern Churches Association. Before coming to St Augustine’s, Stephen’s ministry has included vocations work as an Area Director of Ordinands for Southwark, and teaching as a lecturer on the doctrine module of the Bishop’s Certificate in Discipleship. He is currently a novice in the Third Order of Society of Saint Francis.
