Could you be our Chair of the Board of Studies?

St Augustine’s College of Theology is looking for a Chair of the Board of Studies a role that also makes you a Trustee.

This is your chance to support a welcoming, vibrant theological college where people from all walks of life prepare for ministry, service and theological study.

As Chair, you’ll ensure our programmes remain rigorous, relevant, and responsive to the needs of the Church and wider society. As a Trustee, you’ll help guide the College’s wider strategy and growth as part of the Board of Trustees.

Who are we looking for?

Are you someone who cares about forming thoughtful, faithful leaders for the Church and wider society?

You may have experience in:

  • Theological education
  • Higher education teaching or leadership
  • Ministry or church leadership
  • Academic governance or quality assurance

This role is ideal for someone interested in developing theological education and ministerial formation.

You’ll work with academic staff, trustees and student representatives, so being a good listener, facilitating discussion and building positive relationships is important.

What does the Board of Studies do?

Here’s a snapshot:

  • Reviewing policies for teaching, learning and assessment
  • Monitoring the quality of programmes and student experience
  • Reviewing reports from academic staff and external examiners
  • Advising on developments in higher education and church life
  • Supporting staff in making programmes even better

The Board includes student representatives from across the College’s programmes, as well as staff and external members. The Chair helps encourage open, constructive dialogue across the College.

The Board of Studies reports regularly to the Board of Trustees.

About the role

  • Three Board of Studies meetings per year
  • Around five Board of Trustees meetings per year
  • Meetings are usually online or at our campuses in London or West Malling
  • This role is voluntary, normally for a three-year term
