‘Texts and Traditions in Christian Spirituality’ MA Taster Term – September 2025

Find out what studying theology is like by studying a single module over one academic term. This taster term invites you to explore and reflect upon the relationship between science and faith.

As part of your studies, you’ll engage with a range of voices from the Christian spiritual tradition and explore both their context and impact.

The ‘Texts and Traditions in Christian Spirituality’ Taster Term runs from September to November 2025, beginning with an online induction session.

Classes take place at the West Malling campus in Kent, on alternative Fridays from 10:30am to 4:00pm.

What will the theology MA taster term cover?

The MA Taster Term ‘Texts and Traditions in Christian Spirituality‘ offers a deep dive into the writings and voices of key figures in Christian spirituality. Over the autumn term, you’ll explore texts such as the Rule of St. Benedict, Julian of Norwich’s Showings, the Cloud of Unknowing, and the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises. These works provide insights into prayer, the experience of life, and the development of a relationship with God.

Designed for theology graduates or ordained ministers, this 20-credit module introduces you to contemporary approaches to understanding spiritual texts and their historical contexts. Led by Barnabas Palfrey at our West Malling campus, the course equips you with tools to apply these rich traditions to thoughtful Christian practice today.
