When ‘lockdown’ began September seemed a long way off and I so assumed we’d begin the Autumn Term as we normally do. Now, the future looks rather different. Along with Durham university and other Church of England theological colleges, St Augustine’s will open in September for the new academic year, initially delivering an online induction for new students before launching online classes for the week beginning 21 September. We shall pay close attention to government health advice and, assuming it is safe, transition back to face-to-face learning, beginning with smaller classes, perhaps later in the Autumn term.
In the meantime, the staff and I look forward to seeing you all again and meeting new students. We have learned, over the last few months, more than we expected about online delivery. I’m anticipating, therefore, some new and improved ways of using online media for teaching and learning and, of course, worship. Any changes to our situation, as well as news about mission projects, placements, and matters particular to the various pathways, we’ll announce in good time.
Every blessing for your Summer, peculiar though it may be.
