Diversity, Racism, and our Life in Christ: A Statement of Commitment

Dec 14 Posted by Rebecca Young. Under From the Principal,

The trustees, staff, and students of St Augustine’s have adopted a ‘statement of commitment’ in response to the Church of England’s recent From Lament to Action. The college’s UKME group took the initiative of urging and proposing this statement, arguing very persuasively that we needed to make clear not only our attitude toward racism but also our intention to live as a Christian community of learning in ways that both actively oppose racial discrimination and also foster an ethnically diverse college in which that diversity is grasped as God’s gift and so always formative in…

Appointment of Tutor in Lay Education, Practical Theology, and Old Testament Studies

Sep 10 Posted by Rebecca Young. Under From the Principal,

My particular joy today is to announce the appointment of the Rev. Dr Jenny Corcoran as St Augustine’s Tutor in Lay Education, Practical Theology, and Old Testament Studies. Currently, Jenny serves as chaplain to the Rt Revd Rose Hudson-Wilkin, Bishop of Dover,  and she will take up her post here on November 1st. The remarkable range of expertise that Jenny brings to St Augustine’s is evident in our having to create for her the longest tutorial title in the history of the college. In addition to steering our fast-expanding lay education program (‘Theology for Disciples’),…

We are thrilled to be part of this project!! Science for Seminaries…..

Mar 22 Posted by Rebecca Young. Under From the Principal,

We’re thrilled to be part of this project! Our proposal, draws scientific study into our core teaching in spirituality and cultural engagement, taking us beyond the traditional apologetic focus on these questions. This will feed through all the courses offered across the College, benefitting all our student cohorts through the different licensed ministry pathways and independent study. Further details to follow! You can find out more here: https://www.eclasproject.org/science-for-seminaries…/…

Admissions 2021 – a message from Revd Dr Alan Gregory

Nov 3 Posted by Rebecca Young. Under From the Principal,

Dear All As you can imagine, we’ve spent some time thinking about our recruitment practices for the coming year, especially with the likelihood of more time in lockdown and, almost certainly, a ‘mixed economy’ of online and face to face time for the year ahead. We have decided to develop our existing practice of focusing on the individual ordinand and enquirer, offering them a range of ways into the St Augustine’s experience, as it were. These includes conversations – early in the process – with Principal and senior staff, meetings with current students, virtual tours,…

Online Retreat Programme – October 2020-July 2021

Oct 6 Posted by Rebecca Young. Under From the Principal, Virtual Retreat,

We were delighted that so many of you appreciated our trilogy of online retreats, each responding in a slightly different way to the anxieties, griefs, and bewilderments of the global pandemic. On the 18th of October, we launch the first of a year’s worth of new online retreats that take up a number of important themes in Christian life and prayer. As you’ll see from the attached flier, each retreat consists of four weekly sessions. The exception is, of course, the one offered for Lent, which lasts five weeks. Themes include Advent and the strange…
